Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Spoon or spatula for stirring
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper finely chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Hamburger buns for serving

Instructions

  • Brown the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it's no longer pink, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  • Add Vegetables: Stir in the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Make the Sauce: Add the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
  • Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce should thicken slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve: Spoon the beef mixture onto hamburger buns and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjusting Sweetness: Modify the amount of brown sugar to make the sauce more or less sweet according to your preference.
  • Spicier Version: Add chili powder or diced jalapeƱos for a kick.
  • Leftovers: Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
